In recent weeks, we’ve seen a spike in thefts from South Wales. In this instance, we were alerted to a ram-raid on a storage facility in South Wales. Thieves stole more than £200,000 worth of equipment in the raid. Fortunately for our customer, a CanTrack Protected Takeuchi excavator was amongst the stolen items.
Our Investigations Unit remotely tracked the excavator to a site several miles away from the theft and dispatch an Investigator to the location.
This excavator was tracked to a location similar to another excavator theft earlier in the week. This indicates that the thieves in the area are actively targeting mini excavators and we have advised our customers in the area of this trend.
Our Investigator closed in on the location and got a positive signal from CanTrack’s technology within the excavator.
For safety reasons, our Investigator requested police assistance. This assistance was initially denied as the Police did not have enough solid evidence to use as a base for a warrant. We have technology that shows where the customer’s machine was and that it could be recovered so our Investigator was eventually granted the Police assistance required.
Following the homing beacon, our Investigator tracked the excavator to a hidden brick-built building where the Takeuchi excavator was found and secured.
The stretched Police in the area have to prioritise their officer attendance due to risk & reward factors. Without CanTrack’s unique technology and Investigations Unit, the excavator would not have been found. We thank South Wales Police for listening to our advice and assisting us with the securing of the machine.
The customer provided recovery of the excavator shortly after the machine was found and was returned to their depot.
