Late afternoon a CanTrack customer reported a possible theft. They believed that there was a high chance they’d been victims of a, ‘Hire to Steal’ scam.
A Volvo EC27C Excavator had been hired and delivered to a site in London, then overnight the CanTrack Protect tracking data showed it had been moved approximately 280 miles to County Durham.
Early the next morning our In-house CanTrack Investigations unit set off to the rural location indicated by the CanTrack Protect unit on the Volvo Excavator. Durham Police were contacted and informed of the situation.
Once at the approximate location and with the Police in attendance, our Investigator used our homing beacon technology to locate the stolen machine. It was parked next to a similar Excavator that showed all the telltale signs of also having been stolen.
Both Excavators were recovered. The Volvo EC 27C was returned to the CanTrack customer. Police discovered that the other machine had been stolen a few weeks earlier, also from London and also using the, ‘Hire to Steal’ scam.
